DETROIT
-- More than one million people are expected to come
to downtown Detroit to enjoy the annual Turkey Trot, America’s
Thanksgiving Parade and the Detroit Lions’ game at Ford
Field on Nov. 27. The City is prepared to accommodate the
increased traffic flow in the downtown area, and ample and
convenient parking is available to accommodate audiences for
these great events. The City of Detroit has issued the following
information regarding available parking facilities, bus service
and reroutes, and the Detroit People Mover.
PARADE
ATTENDEES
America’s
Thanksgiving Parade begins at 9:20 a.m. on Nov. 27 on Woodward
Avenue at Mack Avenue. It will continue south along Woodward
and end at Congress. Motorists are advised to leave early
and to park near the parade’s starting point.
PARKING
There
is ample parking to accommodate event attendees. Parking is
available at select City of Detroit Municipal Parking facilities
and privately-operated facilities throughout downtown. Motorists
are advised to pay only those parking attendants authorized
to collect funds.
Employees of authorized parking lots and garages wear identification
badges that indicate the parking facility is licensed by the
City of Detroit. Individuals who park in privately-owned lots
and garages should not pay more than the posted rates.

PARK-AND-RIDE
SHUTTLE SERVICE
Park
your vehicles and ride the Detroit Department of Transportation
(DDOT) shuttle buses to the Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thursday,
November 27, starting at 7 a.m. Relax and have a great time
at the parade by leaving the driving to us. DDOT will ease
the stress of heavy traffic delays and costly parking fees
as well.
Bus
fares are:
- Adult:
$5 (round trip)
-
Student: $1.50 (round trip with approved DDOT Student ID
card)

Children under age 5 or 44 inches tall are FREE (limit three,
with adult)
Bus
drivers cannot provide change. Therefore, it is essential
that the exact amount is inserted in the farebox.
Board
the shuttles at any of the three customer-friendly Park and
Ride locations:

Eastland Mall (Harper Woods/Beaconsfield entrance) -- park
on the lot between Sections 5 & 8; arrives downtown
at Library between Gratiot and Grand River.

State Fair Transit Center (Michigan State Fairgrounds/Woodward
entrance) -- follow directional signs for parking; arrives
downtown at Adams Street at Clifford.

Northland Mall (Southfield/Greenfield entrance) -- park
at South & East G lot; arrives downtown at Adams Street
at Clifford.
The
shuttles will run approximately every 15 minutes as follows:
- Start
Time: 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
- Return
Trips: 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Passengers
can park free at all locations. Directional signage and MDOT
interstate overhead message signs will display the Park and
Ride locations. DDOT Transit Ambassadors, wearing yellow vests,
will also be at each location to assist passengers.
