The
Detroit Tigers are headed to the World Series!
After having the best record in baseball for most of the regular
season, The Detroit Tigers are headed to the World Series. The team
has played the New York Yankees and won. They've beat the Oakland
Athletics in a 4-0 sweep. Now, the Tigers are headed to the cream
of the crop -- The World Series.
The Detroit
Tigers haven't been to the World Series in 22 years. It has been
a long time coming and they're finally on their way. For someone
who was born in 1986, I've never seen the Tigers play in the postseason
let alone the World Series. It's a very exciting time for fans all
across Michigan and the region.
You can
see the courage and determination in the eyes of the Tigers. They
want to win. They've waited more than two decades. It's their moment.
I predict they will not only go to the World Series but become Champions
there. Detroit has been playing excellent this year. They have been
cutting down on errors and focusing on only one game at a time.
In game
four of the American League Championship Series, the Tigers were
down 3-0. Magglio Ordonez hit a solo home run in the sixth inning.
It was the just the start of the Tigers turning the game around.
Later, the Tigers tied the game. In the ninth inning, Craig Monroe
and Placido Polanco both singled. There was two outs and then Magglio
Ordonez hit a home run to give the Tigers a 6-3 victory over the
Athletics. The Tigers became American League champions and secured
a spot in the World Series.
Detroit's
own Kid Rock performed a special concert inside Cheli's Chili Bar.
Nobody know he was going to be performing tonight so it was a surprise
for everyone. As the say, there's "no party like a Detroit
party."
Over the
last few years, the Tigers were at the bottom of the standings.
They've worked their way all the way to the top. They've beat the
Yankees and the Athletics. That should definitely be celebrated
in a huge way. Manager Jim Leyland thought it might take a year
or two to turn the team around. The Tigers improved a lot quicker
than he ever imagined.
Where
do the Tigers go from here?
The
easy answer is the World Series. Detroit will either play the St.
Louis Cardinals or the New York Mets. The Cardinals are leading
the National League Championship by two games to one. Whichever
team the Tigers end up playing, I predict Detroit will become Champions!
If
you can beat the Yankees, you can beat any team in baseball. Nothing
should stand in the way of the Tigers and their World Series victory.
The series might end up being more difficult than the Athletics
but I think the end result will be the same. The Tigers can expect
the World Series to be a little more difficult than the Athletics
but not as challenging as playing the Yankees.
The
Tigers pitching staff is exceptional. With names like Todd Jones,
Kenny Rogers, Justin Verlander and Joel Zumaya, it's no wonder the
Tigers have been winning. Strike out after strike out, it's clear
that Detroit has stepped up it's game in a big way.
The
Tigers hitters are also doing their job in a major way. If you're
a baseball fan, then you know all of these guys. Their names are
Brandon Inge, Craig Monroe, Magglio Ordonez, Placido Polanco, Ivan
Rodriguez, Curtis Granderson, Carlos Guillen and so many more. Everyone
has a favorite, so who's yours? With an exceptional pitching staff
and an amazing array of hitters, the Tigers are on their way to
the World Series.
