Taste
of the NFL to Raise Funds for Charity
The 15th Annual Taste
of the NFL will be held on February 4th at the Rock Financial Showplace
in Novi, MI. There will be NFL players from past and present, nationally-known
chefs and thousands of fans will be in attendance. It is being called
the "Party with a Purpose."
The Taste of the NFL
is one of the few NFL-sanctioned events that are actually open to
the public. Many NFL events are private parties. You can expect
to see five-star cuisine and wine along with live entertainment.
All funds that are raised will benefit America's Second Harvest
to end hunger and affect the poor in Detroit. In Detroit,
the local relief agency that will benefit from the Taste of the
NFL will be the Gleaners Community Food Bank and Forgotten Harvest.
Brian Polcyn of the Five
Lakes Grill in Milford, MI will represent the Detroit Lions. He
will be serving up lobster and Foi Gras Sausage over Braised Leeks
and White Truffle Oil. Each NFL team will have a chef and an NFL
player or alumni to pass out the fine cuisine and give autographs.
To represent the Pittsburgh
Steelers will be Greg Alauzen of Event. He will be serving up Leg
of Elysian Fields Farm Lamb Stew of White Bean and Root Vegetables.
To represent the Seattle Seahawks wil lbe John Howie of Seastar
Restaurant and Raw Bar. He will be serving up Sizzling Dungeness
Crab Cakes.
Wayne Kostroski is the
founder and executive director of the Taste of NFL. "Detroit
has been extremely generous in its donations to the victims of recent
national disasters." He adds, "But with
Detroit listed as the poorest city in America, there are many hungry
residents right here that need assistance. Taste of the NFL is proud
to help raise awareness and funds to support Detroit and extend
those benefits to other food banks across the country."
The charity event started
back in 1992. Since then, the Taste of the NFL has raised more than
$5.7 million. Each of the 32 NFL teams will be accompanied by an
all-star chef and an alumni or current player from that team who
will serve the gourmet dishes and give autographs to all of the
fans. The goal is to raise $1 million on this special night.
Funds will be raised
from ticket sales, auction proceeds and sponsorships. Additional
funds will be raised from the sale of the "Taste of the NFL
Restaurant Guide." There you'll find recipes of the cuisine
that will be served as well as biographies of the players and chefs
themselves. You can purchase a restaurant guide by calling (952)
835-7621.
